Brunei Darussalam is well placed to be the hub of land transportation with a well connected sea port and airport linked by efficient road transport system to the near border locations of the Inland Container Depots (ICDs), Permanent Secretary (Investment) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy and Chairman of Brunei International Air Cargo Centre (BIACC) Sdn Bhd Haji Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid said.

“BIACC will adopt an operating model that is technology centric where the logistics process will be digitally driven and supported by modern warehouse management system to offer a host of services for users.”

Haji Khairuddin said this during a ceremony to mark an agreement between BIACC and Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) for the leasing of the Inland Container Depots (ICDs) located at Kuala Lurah and Sungai Tujoh.

Signing on behalf of BIACC was Haji Khairuddin, while MPABD was represented by its Acting Chief Executive Captain Abdul Mateen Abdurrahman Liew @ Martin.

The event was witnessed by senior officials, management and staff from MPABD, BIACC and Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd (DA).

Haji Khairuddin believed that the ICDs will improve the ease of doing business aspect in Brunei Darussalam and drive down the logistic costs and subsequently lowering customers’ costs and giving them better value for money, which are characteristics to attract foreign direct investments (FDIs).

He looked forward to the development of the ICDs and creation of new job opportunities for locals.

Meanwhile, Captain Abdul Mateen Abdurrahman Liew said the agreement was expected to allow both agencies to leverage on each other’s strengths in logistics. MPABD, he said, will render its support to BIACC to facilitate the realisation of BIACC’s objectives to improve the logistics services in Brunei Darussalam.

Under the agreement, MPABD awards BIACC with a tenancy of three years to manage, operate and maintain the ICDs as licensed warehouses and offer services which will bring in added value to the customers.

The warehouses will cater the needs of customs declaration and clearance, e-commerce handling, inventory and storage management for short and longterm storage of general cargo, sea container (dry and/or reefer) and oil and gas equipment, general cargo handling (FCL and LCL containers), cross-docking services and cargo consolidation or deconsolidation.
